PIETRA MENALDA – VULCANO(ME)

DIVE TYPE: EASY DIFFICULTY MAXIMUM DEPTH: MIN. 15 MT / MAX.40 MT

This dive site is located near the smallest of the striking cliffs (“Faraglioni”) that emerge between the island of Vulcano and Lipari. Anchored on a rocky plateau about 10 meters deep, the dive begins along the rock formation corresponding to the base of the cliff; moving in the west direction, we find a vast area of lush Posidonia oceanica that, after a few minutes, gives way to rock formations hosting a sedentary population of golden groupers and brown groupers; the large ravines quite often host musdeas and lobsters; coming back, we will circumnavigate the “faraglione”: where it is quite common to meet schools of barracuda, and whose submerged wall is quite colored thanks to the substratum fully colonized by madrepores and sponges of various colors.
