FALSO CORALLO NERO E STELLA GORGONE (SECCA DI PONENTE)
DIVE TYPE: AVERAGE DIFFICULTY MAXIMUM DEPTH: MIN. 15 MT / MAX.38 MT
The south-eastern side of the shoal offers a rich and varied biodiversity; when swimming in a depth range of between 20 and 40 meters deep, the diver can explore the many medium-sized rocks, colonized by red gorgonian sea fans and rare yellow/orange gorgonian (Gorgonia di Sherki). In the ravines, it is possible quite often to observe small lobsters, croakers (in a small cave at the base of the shoal) and some conger eels. This side of the Ponente shoal is really amazing and it offers us a wonderful gift, allowing us to observe a rare starfish: the Basket starfish (Stella Gorgone); and some very beautiful branches of “Savaglia Savaglia” gorgonians (the so-called “false black coral”) with their characteristic deep yellow color, at a deep of 35 mt.
